Swift Levick & Sons
Swift Levick was founded in 1883 by Thomas Swift Levick and a Mr. M'Gillivary. The company produced high-quality crucible steel, and after the initial partnership was dissolved, Thomas Levick was joined by his three sons. In 1912, one of the sons, Henry, decided to start manufacturing permanent magnets, which had nearly all been manufactured in Germany until then.
In 1978, Swift Levick was acquired by the Duport Group, who sold the firm to the Magnetic Materials Group three years later. The company was then acquired by Outokumpu, the Finnish group best known for producing stainless steel, in 1989.
Throughout its history, Swift Levick had a remarkable journey, rooted in the vision and dedication of its founders. The company thrived in the production of high-quality crucible steel, and the innovative spirit of Thomas Levick and his sons led them to venture into manufacturing permanent magnets, disrupting the market previously dominated by German manufacturers.
In 1978, the Duport Group recognized the exceptional achievements of Swift Levick and acquired the company, opening new avenues for growth and success. Subsequently, in 1981, the Magnetic Materials Group acquired Swift Levick from the Duport Group, further propelling its advancement in the industry. In a significant turn of events, Outokumpu, renowned for its stainless steel production, acquired Swift Levick in 1989.
This partnership brought global recognition to Swift Levick, solidifying its position as a leader in the magnetic materials industry. Throughout its journey, Swift Levick has embodied a legacy of excellence and innovation. From its humble beginnings to its acquisitions and industry milestones, the company has constantly pushed boundaries and strived for customer satisfaction.
